JE,
Feel fine. No pain, only inconvenient. But anxious.
So I wrote up the history and wrote/talked to to three friends: Mike =azzaniga, Ramachandran, and Eric Kandel. Then I
emailed the surgeon =ast night who had not given me his opinion about surgery as he hadn't =een the EMG tests yet. His
people called today and said he wants to see =e in a month on Feb 7. I told them the neurologist was pushing with a
=ense of urgency to have an operation asap. The surgeon's guy said the =as now seen all the test results and is
comfortable with seeing me in a =onth. So he's obviously not pushing me to go to the hospital.
In the meantime, I'm doing PT twice a week and going to look for =eldenkreis or Alexander person.
Below are some responses. Thanks for you help and support.
JB
KANDEL CONVERSATION
Spoke to Eric who said to avoid neck surgery unless its absolutely the =ast resort. He wants me to come up to Columbia
to see his colleague - =inda Lewis, who he says is the best neurologist he knows. And to bring =ilm and test results. Tel
no.

John Very sorry to hear this. These things can be annoying even though =ot serious.
As you know Im not a spinal surgeon but my overall inclination is to =ean in Jeffs direction. Always get multiple opinions
before surgery - =ut do so SOON.
Meanwhile III ponder over it and give you feedback in the next couple 4 days.
Rest assured you can be optimistic Rama
GAZZANIGA RESPONSE

-- He wants me to see his friend Dr. Frank Petito at Cornell. See Below

John
On all clinical matters involving neurologic issues I always consult Dr. =rank Petito at Cornell. He is top guy in NYC. I did
review this with =nother top person here that is a good friend. He comments as follows: =ln general the standard of
care in non-progressive radiculopathy with =ild or moderate clinical weakness and no pain is conservative; put off
=urgery until something else gets you. An EMG is not essential if =linical signs and symptoms and radiology tests
already establish the =iagnosis. If questions persist, see another neurologist at an academic =enter."
So I would call Frank and tell him I am sending you. I am sure Frank =nows all the players involved and everyone agrees
he is tops. Don't =now what he will say but it is a bit interesting that a neurologists =ecommends surgery. Waiting on
the opinion of a top orthopedic guy and =ill get that to you.
xxMike
