I think having me reach out to their lawyer and say essentially, what the hell, would be useful pressure that would be expected from anyone who might conceivably sue. As I've said many times, I don't think you are a serious litigation threat, because I just don't think you want to spend the money, which is understandable. I asked about money, and he was unclear, although he said if I retired he thought I would get whatever retirement package there is.. which of course is nothing, and said he didn't think the university would be willing to give money (which goes against what the conciliation committee said he said when they met him, so maybe he simply doesn't know). I also asked him about a statement to save face.. since that was my other condition in the conciliation process.. namely to restore my reputation to some extent. He said he thought the university would come out with a brief statement saying I had decided to retire.. So basically, his first offer is nothing at all.. I am going to come up with a counter proposal and will give it to him on Wed and we will see what happens or whether we have to move forward to the next step.
