Jeffrey,
I visited the 2002 Bell 430 serial #91 (total time 1470 hours),. owned by the Seminole Tribe in Clewiston FI,. they have a
large operation, new 200 foot hanger, private 6200 foot runway, Jet Ranger, Belt 430, Bell 407, Pilotus singe engine turbo
prop, and Gulfstream IV, impressive operation. and a well kept secrect,.
I consulted Paul Shrader, David Burch (Edward's and Assoc) director of Maintenance, that has done large inspections on the
Tribes 8430, and Darren Rothell, who knows the Tribes pilots etc,.
findings:
I like their machine, I will list a pros and cons list below. In short, Paul told me all helicopter sales have slipped for obvious
reasons,. The Bell 430 especially, since its no longer in production as of three years ago. The Bell 430 line in total is
approximately 140 machines in use. The 8430 has same engines as our Bell 407, just a twin engine version with higher HP
margins, so its a good engine. The Belt 430 is a little power challenged with 6 passengers and 2 people up front and full fuel,
departing from a point as oppose to a running take off, with field elevations of 3000 feet or more, our operation at sea level is
good,. Paul thinks our Bell 407 is a strong fast sale price at 1.6M helicopter, and could push 1.7M for a high sale,.He thought
the Belt 430 the tribe owns is a 2.8M machine at average, Paul completed this helicopter in 2002 at Edwards, the Tribe
are the third owner, they operated the 8430 for 4 years and purchased it with 400 hours, it has been a good machine for
them, and averaged 250 hours a year. They need a Bell 407 for utility work and would install a hoist for lift operations,.They
are not interested in the floats and know they can sell them for $60k, since I have two sets of skids for our B407,.
Advantages of the Tribe's Bell 430:
There is NO limo window or partition forward, the visibility while sitting in the rear seat looking out the front window is great,
note the photos below,. since it has no partition (or limo window) this means there is no cocoon shell installed for passenger
noise,. According to the Tribe pilots, the passengers sometimes where Bose headsets, but are able conversations without
using headsets. less Db's than a 8407. Also this helicopter is 600 lbs lighter than a Bell 430 with a cocoon interior, which
makes it a safer single engine performance machine in the event of engine failure since it is power challenged in some
instances.
The interior leather is 5 years old, and very good condition, I don't think its necessary to change at this point.
Avionics in the cockpit are standard, nothing fancy but single pilot IFR certified. The tribe installed a GPS position tracker
that is Satellite based thru the Iridium sat phone, so in case the aircraft ditches position will be know and the helicopter can
be tracked via web sight tracking and monitoring. This system can be disarmed for privacy purposes, I'd use it only to ferry
the helicopter over large bodies of water on flights to west palm bch etc,.
Maintenance wise, the big engine inspection is due in 280 hours, we have been averaging approx; 90 hours a year on
helicopter operation, so this event is three years away: the inspection is a first and second stage turbine blade overhaul,
where the engine is removed and turbine blades inspected in the hot section, since the compressor is visible during this
time, a visual is required and defects repaired, cost is $125,000 per engine on the high side, and engines have been
averaging $80,000 per side on well maintained 8430 that have not been worked hard.
Paint is 5 years old, and always hangered, NO paint required, good condition, and actually is almost identical to S76 paint
color you selected,.
Disadvantages:
-Bell 430 no longer in production, but still has strong Bell factory support
-engines require removal in 280 hours
-no cocoon, (but strong weight advantage for performance) since its a light B430,.
there is a Bell 430 in Switzerland that is a 2000 model serial #61 with 1250 hours, with a rumored price of 2.7M of
course exporting and shipping logistics are issue, but will use the price against the Tribe,. They really want our Bell 407 in
trade, While speaking to Clinton, their Director of Aviation, he thought our Bell 407 was worth 1.4M, in which
I responded, "We tumed down 1.8M some months ago since I didn't have a replacement machine",.

I feel your offer of 1 Million plus our 407 is a great offer, and should let them sit on it for a while, and believe I should put it in
writing with a simple LOI (letter of intent), so they will have to present the deal to the Head Tribesmen, , I invited their
Director of aviation and chief mechanic to STT to inspect our machine,. I would like to take a demo ride and evaluate the
noise level in passenger compartment, if you think its appropriate?
in closing,
Its an easy deal, its close, they want our 407, we need a twin, low time machine, and its light 430,. they have only been on
the market for two weeks, so its new to them,,,,They have no broker involved and do not like brokers,. so I am dealing direct
with Chief pilot,.
should I present them an LOI with the 1M offer if so, I will have Darren draft..
thank you,
Larry
