ST F\S WAR ILW ITEYACHT DESIGN NE LETTER August, 2009- Launching our flagship, Bequia, has made for a rewarding and exciting summer. Now that Bequia is on her way, Brooklin Boat Yard can now pat themselves on the back for a job well- done. Our hats go off to the construction crew for a first rate job, as they have once again gone over the top on every detail. Bequia is cold molded wood construction of the finest quality woods—a 2 1/4" thick hull over 31/2" square ring frames. Her deck is foam core and plywood over a traditional fiamework—this allows the passage of wireways throughout the deck. Both Bequia under sail in Penobscot Bay, near Camden, Maine. Her clean grace- stainless steel and bronze metals ful lines leave very little wake. were widely used for structural components in the bilge and on deck. She is very much a modem composite yacht. The yacht is off auising the Northeast U.S. Before her departure, the Bequia was put through her paces during the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta series of Classic and Spirit ofTradition yacht races. She was the largest yacht in the fleet, and certainly nothing shy of sweetheart Sailing this boat is a joy. She effortlessly gains speed and momentum Hoi An, left, and Bequia, right, two boats by SWW and both built by in complete deliberation while making Brooklin Boat Yard. The self-tacking staysi and high cut yankee help to ease the work ofshort tacking the boat during racing, and is a nice combo for cruising. Though we missed having downwind calls, the mizzen stays' dearly added that extra push while off the wind, keeping this beauty moving. The only draw-back, with all of the powered equipment on board, were the complaints that the crew had sore thumbs! A tidy navigation table to Port. design that help set the features of Bequia apart from the rest We have not yet had much opportunity this season to bask in the warming rays of celebration of this newly launched flagship. As we reflect back on the project we are reminded of the dreams that we have helped to fulfill. It seems fitting to sham with you a recent quote from the yacht's owner. "I have to add one more comment....Preferred seat: a small cushion on the aft cabin deck house, port or starboard, and a big cushion against the dorade bat Legs crossed, wine glass chilled, view ofthe wood work, Vanderbilt would be envious." Taken fonn a recent communication while cruising, we are certain we have one happy clam! Robert W. Stephens Paul W. Waring I. Steven White www.swwyOchtdesign.corn P.O. BOX 143 CENTER HARBOR RD.
