here is a little ethnic humour for you
An Ibo friend in New Jersey once told me that the Ibo had an expression explaining violent tendencies of Jamaicans—they were lbo who
failed to reach the U.S. Since roughly 98% of the lower orders in Jamaica would migrate in a heartbeat, this idea was immediately appealing.
The Ibo were long known to be the most obstreperous tribe in Nigeria. They tried to secede from Nigeria in the 1960's, leading to a 5-year
"Biafran War" before the numerically superior Yoruba suppressed them. But how did Jamaica get stuck with this unusual combination?
BECAUSE MANY IBO SLAVES IN THE US GOT "EXRADICTED" TO JAMAICA! My Ibo friend argued that you were unlikely to kill a
slave who was obnoxious and in-your-face because a slave was valuable property. A strapping young adult man (such as yourself a few years
back) was worth $2500 in 1850 dollars, which is about $75,000 US in today's dollars. So you sold him at a loss, say for $1500, to a slave
trader who promptly shipped him to Jamaica, where he fit right in and became an Ibo who wanted to go back.

met a most pleasant Israeli man —45 today who works in the Dominican Republic (interior) on agricultural

in any case, when he heard i was Jewish on my father's side, he immediately warmed up further
so i tell him about Two-pants Trivers
so he tells me about another Jewish clothing legend in the US—the invention of Levis
he said during the California Gold Rush where all these men hoping to become millionaires were frantically
digging for gold on their hands and knees and the only one to actually become a millionaire was the man
who invented a stronger jeans meant for this kind of work.
The Gold Rush was 1845-55—the invention of the Levi, with studs running down the side—alas, Google
informs me—occurred in 1873 by one Levi Strauss
have you ever heard this one
