The US Virgin Islands lags far behind most US states, if not the world, in many basic statistics, including poverty rates of 29% and one of the highest death rates at 31 per 100,000 capita. Education over the last ten years however, has been flourishing throughout the USVI with literacy of 15 year olds up to 90% -95%.
