• Meeting with Allan Barr at yard re: timeline, contractors. Allan has
indicated that he may want the color changed in the owners stateroom

at extra cost! I have the original email sent to the vendor stating which
color is to be used.

crew cabin area.
Misc:
• I have ordered a PSA (oxygen generator) to be used for filling the 02
system on the sub. After consultation with Nuytco about the storage
requirements they indicated that we would be able to carry enough
bottled oxygen aboard to last for 2 dives a day for 7 days before the
bottles would need refilling. Considering the availability of medical
grade 02 & our geographical location at the time, this may not be
feasible, so self sufficiency requires the PSA. This can also be used for
the treatment requirements of the recompression chamber & in the
future if nitrox was required for diving ops then the unit is ready.
• Sonar/ Winch: We have started to configure the layout of the winch
& Murrays are ready to start on structural matters for the foundation
bed. The height of the winch from the back deck will be about 48"
(Bar height), I havn't worked on a design for the bar box to cover the
winch just yet. This will require some removable panels for winch
operations. It will be wider & deeper than indicated on the ships GA
plan.
• A-Frame/ Launching Device: This is a work in progress & has a
number of deciding factors, like will it launch & retrieve the fish in a
safe manner, can it be designed to reach out over the swim platform far
enough to stop any damage to the fish, is it aesthetically acceptable,
etc. It would require a hydraulic ram either side to manouver it in &
out, these would tie into the powerpack downstairs that drives the aft
capstans. The A-Frame requires a 28" diameter snatch block to run the
cable through, I would figure to take this off & store it when not in
use.
• Interior: The 4 guest stateroom staining is done & covered (Avalon).
Zeff has instructed Avalon to do some staining in the bathrooms of
those cabins as well.
Best Marine have been working in the owners Stateroom staining the
Stb. Closet, drawers, etc. Alan was in the yard for a few hours on
Thursday checking it out. He wants them to darken the color a little. I
have sent a sample from Best to Zeff & instructed them to keep me
informed as to the outcome & what sample they are to be using so we
are all on the same page.
Windward are covering ceiling panels.

Zeff has asked us to find vendors for: glass & glazing, tiling, interior
painting & the aft deck awning. I need to do/ get a concept design &
drawing plus a specification for this.
Crew cabin/ Laundry/ Dry store: I have commited myself to the idea
of having the laundry in the original dry store space, the new crew
cabin/ bathroom in the original laundry space & leaving the darkroom/
store on Stb. side as a very good size dry store. I believe this is the best
solution for this area considering the necessity to carry a lot of dry
stores for self sufficiency. I will put 3 Miele stacked washer/ dryers in
which are smaller in dimensions each but carry bigger loads than the
original units.
• Crew: I have been getting some CV's in & have some decent
candidates amongst them. Am still sorting though them in the off
hours. Will pass along details soon.
When we have a more fixed finished date for the refit I will start to
consider when the best time for more crew would be to start. No use
having crew start to early & be burnt out by the time the shipyard
period is over, though some more hands in the future will be
advantageous.
• Timeline: The good intentions of having the "realistic finish date"
timeline ready by yesterday fell into a bit of disarray at the final hours
when Steve Monson had to rush off to Alabama to help his relatives
after the hurricane, taking the notes that he & CT had compiled the day
before. CT was in New York, Chuck Watson (ADD) was off work
Thurs. with a nasty flu going around the yard & Zeff came back & said
they would be late getting their stuff finalized. Once this gets done it
needs a central person updating the data & distributing it, rather than a
number of people adding data to their own spreadsheet & multiple
copies of different timelines going around, this will also be a bit more
efficient as its ironic how much time goes into the input of the timeline
to save time.
• Penumbra: After discussions with John H. & Craig T. it has been
decided by all parties to phase out some of Penumbra's time in the
project to more of a "consultancy" basis. We have initially started with
a 50% reduction as I need some time to get hold of the reins entirely
by getting all the facts of previous decisions, etc. for all facets of the
project.
