University Statement on Professor Krauss following Investigations by the Office of Equity and Inclusion, and
meetings of the University Conciliation Committee with Professor Krauss
Professor Krauss has been a valued member of the University Community for the past decade. As Director of
Origins, he created a unique program that brought world class scientists, scholars, and celebrities to ASU to
share their insights, create new research programs and excited and educate the public about foundational
questions of great relevance for dealing with the challenges of the 21st century. As a Professor he helped build
and create an outstanding research program in Cosmology at ASU, and his classes at Barrett honors college
has received rave reviews. Through his many efforts at public outreach, he has inspired individuals around the
world to better appreciate the world around them. Following complaints originating with BuzzFeed magazine
in February of this year, investigation the University has not substantiated any violations of University policy
at ASU warranting dismissal or further sanctions against Professor Krauss. No complaints have been raised
against Professor Krauss by any students, researchers, or faculty that he has worked with at his time at ASU, or
by any of the many participants in his Origins Project events over the past decade. In addition, Professor
Krauss has brought to our attention new information regarding the allegation previously adjudicated by the
University, that he groped a woman who was taking a selfie photograph with him at an event in Australia. For
these reasons, Professor Krauss' period of administrative leave is thus lifted effective immediately.
Nevertheless, both the University and Professor Krauss are aware that the press surrounding the allegations
have caused concerns among various members of the public and the University community that will make it
difficult for him to effectively continue with all of his teaching and research activities as a Professor.,
Professor Krauss and the University have therefore agreed that he will retire from his current post at the
University this coming May, on his 65th birthday. He will maintain emeritus status at ASU, which will allow
him to continue his research collaborations with various faculty and other researchers at the Institution, even as
his teaching and administrative duties will end at the end of the 2018-2019 academic year.
