The chal=enge is based on the 2010 USDOT Policy Statement on Bicycle and Pedestrian=Accommodation to incorporate safe and convenient walking and bicycling fac=lities into transportation projects - to promote health, safety= environmental, transportation, and quality of life. Nearly 200 cities acr=ss the nation have also accepted the Challenge. As part of the activities we will: • Take a Complete Streets approach t=at considers walking and bicy=ling as equals with other transportation modes. • Identify and address barriers to make streets safe and =onvenient for all road users, including people of all ages and abil=ties and those using assistive mobility devices. Pedestrian a=d bicycle facilities should meet accessibility requirements and provide sa=e, convenient, and interconnected transportation networks for people of al= ages and abilities, especially children, by identifying and addressing ba=riers. Use designs that are a=propriate to the context of the street and its uses. • Improve walking and biking safety laws and regulations that s=/span>trengthen codes, ordinances, and practices to help p=otect non-motorized users.
