Dear Ariane,
I hope this message finds you well!
As you probably know, the French-American Business Council (FABC) was first started under my
predecessor, Ambassador Felix Rohatyn, in 1998. Over the course of many years thereafter, a select group of
CEOs representing companies on both sides of the Atlantic gathered once or twice a year to discuss issues
including macroeconomic trends, job growth, and challenges to the business environment. By all accounts it
was a vibrant and worthwhile exercise for all involved. We are now looking to revive this group — Jeff
Immelt, CEO of General Electric, and Maurice Levy, CEO of Publicis, have graciously offered to co-chair
the FABC, and we are hoping you will join this council!
You should have recently received an invitation from the White House to participate in a "French-American
Business Dialogue" event from 9:00am to 11:00am on March 17th. That meeting will include the formal
reinstatement of the FABC, and will provide an excellent opportunity to participate in a broad business
discussion with senior White House officials. In addition to this event at the White House, the FABC — in
coordination with the French American Foundation — is organizing a number of additional opportunities that
day to gather with each other, and to hear from experts on issues including trans-Atlantic trade, climate
change, job promotion and youth employment. Finally, Ambassador Gerard Araud, French Ambassador to
the United States, will host a dinner for all attendees on the evening of March 16th at his home, and is
planning to include speakers to present on the US election.
I would like to urge you to consider attending these events in Washington DC on March 16th an 17th. We
expect it to be a meaningful exercise for all involved, and will be worth the trip!
Please let us know if you have any questions on this event, and we hope to see you in Washington DC!
Best,
Jane
Jane D. Hartley
United States Ambassador to the France Republic and the Principality of Monaco
