From pawnshops that convert into chic lounges and
new fusion restaurants with fun vibes, here are six of
the best restaurants in New York City for your next
Girl's Night Out—all based on a non-scientific
assessment of ambience, food and location.

1) Mercer Kitchen: Located inside the Mercer Hotel, Mercer Kitchen's insanely chic open kitchen and never-
ending tables are great for a night out with your ladies. The candle lit, exposed brick walls and lush potted plants
provide the ideal ambience and the menu has something for everyone—from peekytoe crab fritters and warm
whole artichokes to kabocha squash toast. The crowd is a mix of the art-world meets fashion types.
2)Tijuana Picnic: From the team behind the fashionable ACME and Indochine, the newly-opened Tijuana
Picnic is a mix of Mexican-Asian cuisine with a list of great cocktails—with names like Grapefruit Gringo and
Smokin' Maid. Sophisticated starters like duck empanadas with foie gras and cognac and grilled corn with
cricket aioli and coffee-chipotle powder make for great tapas. The community tables are perfect for groups and
the decor is clean, fun and chic.

3) Hunt and Fish Club: For those who love to be the only female group in a (usually) all male atmosphere,
head to the lavishly decorated Hunt & Fish Club in midtown. The space includes 55,000 pounds of marble, large-
scale paintings by artist Roy Nachum, a ceiling glistening with hundreds of light bulbs, and a high male to
female ratio. The menu is traditional steakhouse fare and includes a must-try oxtail & bone marrow French onion
soup.
4) Louie and Chan: The Lower East Side based Louie and Chan has many sides. For one, the first-floor acts as
a cozy restaurant serving a mix of cool Italian-Chinese food—referencing the old LES neighborhood—while the
lower level is a cocktail bar and full dance floor with DJ. Louie and Chan also tends to attract fashion insiders
like Jason Wu and model Soo Joo Park.

5) Beauty and Essex: When you first walk into Beauty and Essex, you're literally inside a pawnshop. As you
continue, a door reveals a full-scale restaurant, and the second-floor serves as a lounge and bar plus boasts a
ladies room where free champagne is offered. The dinner menu is comprised of a raw bar, various kinds of
toasts, market pizzas and classic "accessories" ranging from lobster mac and cheese to vidalia onion ring
tempura.
6) Bar Pitti: Known both as one of the best places to get Italian food in the West Village as well as one of the
best places to people-watch celebs (Beyonce, Heidi Klum), Bar Pitti has that low-key friendly New York
elegance. When the weather's warmer, there's nothing better than sitting outdoors with a group of your favorite
people.
