Although Afn Shvel is not a YIVO publication, all of its editors have strong connections to YIVO. The current editor, Dr. Sheva Zucker, is a longtime teacher and a former student in YIVO's Uriel Weinreich Summer Program in Yiddish Language, Literature and Culture. Her predecessor, Dr. Mordkhe Schaechter, taught for over 30 years in this program and edited YIVO's publication Yidishe shprakh. Dr. Yitskhok- Nakhmen Shteynberg, editor 1942-1957, was one of YIVO's founders.
