Previous to that, I directed all speaking and workshop requests that I received to you. I do not know how this lead to your accusing "me and my friends" of "ruining it" or of running a "scam." I first met Wendy in 2009 when she came to the Hong Kong Conference that I hosted. Two years ago, she asked me to fly up to Shanghai to see her and told me that she'd like to support my organizing a consciousness event in China for the next 10 years. Her motivation was personal (Crystal Globe's main business isn't events, but cultural property development). She learned a lot from the Hong Kong event and felt that China and Asia should develop in this area. I floated the idea of hosting TSC in Shanghai for 2017 as a start and told her that I would explore that possibility. This was just as the Helsinki event was starting. If you recall, I showed up in Helsinki on the second to last day and floated the idea to you (you were leaning toward Amsterdam at the time if you recall) and you agreed to come out for a visit. I flew up to Shanghai to accompany you on that visit. During the visit, you agreed to allow us to host TSC and then Wendy surprised both of us by floating the offer to provide financing as an investment. You may recall the humour between us at the time as it was unclear the amount she was offering (off by a factor of 10). You seemed very happy at the time, and I helped to draft the MOU. In our discussions in Shanghai, you shared with me your desire to "retire" from anaesthesiology and do consciousness related work full-time. We talked about the additional income you would need to make that happen and we agreed to explore sustainable revenue models together. Since the signing of the MOU, I have not been involved in any of the discussions. During TSC last year in Tucson, I used some ofmy grant funding to bring a team over to get a sense of the Conference so that they could help out. We began meeting in the Fall to build a team to help plan TSC activities, including a pre- EFTA01051221 conference workshop and a post-conference road-trip to Beijing for the ASSC Conference. I had the team Skype with Stu, the team put a plan together and made preparations (see attached). Note, all of this has been volunteer work. In an effort to explore more funding opportunities and possible revenue streams, I introduced Stuart to a benefactor of mine in New York and also had him meet with another friend that was working to develop an agency related to consciousness. The idea behind these introductions was to line up revenue streams for Stuart. When I found out you were going to be in Shanghai again to give talks, I flew up there to talk about the conference and to show you, Betsy, James, and Kelly around. I brought Robert and Molly along to understand the venue and help with planning, etc. When I got the original mail from Yi Fa about the Buddhism and Technology Conference, I forwarded the mail to both Wendy and Stuart. When I found out that Yi Fa was going to be in Shanghai for a day on her way to Antarctica, I flew up to meet with her and Wendy at the airport. Because they couldn't get a permit in Beijing to hold the event there, they moved their event to Shanghai. I talked to Jamie who was overseeing their programming and asked him for a list of people he felt were relevant to their event. He (not under my instruction) sent another list to Stuart and he blew up at me. It was at this point in time, that I backed away from anything happening with the Conference. I assumed that Wendy was working directly with Stuart. Two weeks ago, I embarked on an India tour and spoke in Agra and got to meet their Supreme Leader. Vishal directed me to people that I was to personally invite to Shanghai and did so on behalf of the Conference. I also gave talks in Chandigarh, Delhi, and Mumbai and promoted attendance to the Conference at each place. Regarding what appears to be this final break, I only became aware of it when I received this message from Wendy: This was my introduction to the current "situation." While I have no idea as to how things got so off track (NOR WAS I INVOLVED), the wording of the message above sounds to me a lot like an ultimatum. Wendy was understandably worried as at the time, she was taking the financial risk, had placed deposits, and invited senior officials. When Stuart wrote me asking for suggestions, my recommendation was to focus on the event at hand, and worry about the investment till later. I also recommended to Wendy to just focus on the event at hand. However, unlike an academic conference, Wendy was committing considerable resources to make the conference grand and it was highly doubtful that it would recoup costs. Wendy considered many options alternatives, but my recommendation to her was to see TSC through. I spent some time talking to James Tagg who was working toward reconciling the situation and it was agreed that the only thing that would diffuse the situation is if Stuart and Wendy spoke. I have previously offered, with James, to mediate a conversation between Wendy and Stuart. I also suggested that each person write their grievances in bullet point format (for which they feel requires an apology as a precondition to real-time communication. I also suggested that by taking the investment idea off the table, the lawyer could be dismissed. However that has not come about over the last few days. My intention in taking the time to write this are two fold. I) To clear my name of Stuart's accusations. I introduced Stuart to Wendy and helped to facilitate the collaboration. Until the above message from Wendy, I have not been involved in any of the discussions or negotiations between Wendy and Stuart. It is both unfair and inappropriate for Stuart to make such accusations to my friends and others. Not only do I feel that my efforts are taken fore granted, I am being unfairly blamed for the consequences. 2) To the best of my knowledge, Wendy plans are: a) To organise her own conference later in the year. EFTA01051222 b) To support the Wooden Fish event happening after TSC. c) Her original involvement in hosting TSC stemmed from her interest in promoting the field of consciousness in China, as such, she would like to see the June event a success. From the perspective of my research work, the conflicts between Wendy and Stuart are driven by beliefs and stories that trigger the sympathetic nervous system and result in actions driven by fear / need / desire. Given the intentions expressed by both parties including the two visits by Stuart to Shanghai, it would appear that the events of the past week or two have triggered deep wounds within both parties. Rather than examining these triggers toward greater self knowledge and healing, its a lot easier to react and blame others.
