EWB is a global non-profit helping to improve the quality of life of peopl= through training and long-term projects. The HU EWB chapter, composed=of students, researchers and alumni, works on sustainable agricultura= development in Mekelle, Ethiopia. HU's EWB work in Ethiopia comes at a critical time. Last month, th= United Nations reported the country is experiencing its worst dr=ught in 30 years, increasing food insecurity.=br> HU's EWB project helps educate farmers, focusing on increasing cro=s through better irrigation methods, hybrid seeds, fertilizers and pe=t control. Last year, with help of HU's EWB chapter, local farm=rs grew 10 times more vegetables than nearby farms. Over=the next five years, HU's EWB chapter plans to build new sites,=train and work with more farmers, and develop an internship program.
