Subject: Rosh Hashanah begins tomorrow (Wednesday) evening
Date: Wed, 20 Sep 2017 01:34:17 +0000
Dear Friends,
The High Holy Days are upon us. Rosh Hashanah begins tomorrow (Wednesday) evening September 20 at
sundown.
For a complete list of all the laws, customs and background information on the High Holidays including guides,
stories and even recipes please visit www.JewishNewYear.org
Jewish Women and girls should light candles on the eve of September 20 and 21 in honor of the holiday. Jewish
men that are not married have the responsibility to light the holiday candles as well.
On September 20: Ideally the candles should be lit — just as on every Friday afternoon — eighteen minutes before
sunset. However, the candles can be lit anytime before the holiday meal. If the candles are lit after sunset, they
should be lit from a pre-existing flame.
On September 21: The candles should be lit, from a pre-existing flame, after nightfall. Additionally, all preparations
for the candle lighting, such as arranging the candlesticks and candles, may not start before nightfall.
Blessings for candle lighting for the holiday of Rosh Hashanah

Blessed are You, L-rd our G-d, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments and has
commanded us to light the candle of the Day of Remembrance.
The Shehechiyonu blessing
Bo-etch A-toh Ado-noi E-lo-hei-nu Me-lech Ho-olom she-heche-ya-nu ve-ki-yi-ma-nu ve-higi-a-nu liz-man
Blessed are you, L-rd our G-d, King of the universe, who has kept us alive and sustained us and let us reach this
time.

All Jewish men, women and children should attend services on both days of Rosh Hashanah, September 21 and
22 in order to hear the blowing of the Shofar. You can hear the blowing of the Shofar or blow the shofar yourself
(if you know how many blasts and which blasts to blow) anytime during the day, between sunrise and sunset.
If you need help finding a synagogue near you where you can attend High Holiday services (anywhere in the
world) free of charge, Please visit www.chabad.org/centers . If you are having trouble finding a synagogue near
where you will be welcomed free of charge, please email me at or text me at
and I will find you a synagogue to attend.
May you be inscribed and sealed for a Good, Happy and Sweet New Year.
