Please confirm that you have received this email, and let me know approximately when you may be able to answer our questions so we can plan accordingly. On a different note, I was able to get your new address in AZ from Deborah last week, and we sent you our tax organizer package. She also confirmed that you had purchased a home in AZ and that you were intending to stay there as permanent residents. Therefore, we expect to file a part-year resident return in MA, and part-year resident in AZ. We file returns in nearly every state each year, including AZ, for other clients. The good news is that your income tax liability in AZ will be less than it was in MA, but I expect that you're experiencing a higher sales tax in AZ. MA collects about 53% of its annual income from personal income taxes and about 22% from sales taxes. AZ is about the opposite, collecting about 27% from personal income taxes and about 45% from sales taxes. Let me, or Matt, know if you have any questions about completing your tax organizer. If you prefer, we also have an electronic version that you can complete. It allows you to add PDFs, Excel and Word files, etc. as supporting documents, and then it can be securely submitted to us electronically via our tax software. Please be aware that these are based on information that we have and are not complete. Various items on the balance sheet are outdated because they are based on the latest statements we have, usually from 2016. Please look over the items, gather the most recent bank, credit card, or investment statements, and send them to us so we can give you a more up to date balance sheet. For the income statement, we used the amounts we had from your 2016 tax return. The 2017 amounts are based on items we gathered during the start of planning for the yearend, and could have changed by this point. All items are based on the tax return and does not take into account personal expenses that are not tax deductible. Please give us an idea of personal items and expenses so we can add them to the statement. Please let me know if you have any questions. We can do a first draft to share with you and then tweak based on your additional inputs. Also, we need to get your Arizona mailing address. I suspect that you will be happy to be there tomorrow since we're due to get a foot of snow!
